Gen Z has started to use more flip phones to limit screen time

Per CNBC

As technology becomes more accessible, more Gen Z starts to gravitate towards the use of flip phones. Aside from hopping on the new "vintage" tech trend, they are also trying to limit their screen time.

The type of phones being used in this trend is flip phones that don't have access to the internet. This automatically limits users to text, calls, and just a few other features.

Because of its limitations, users won't be able to spend hours on TikTok or other apps as they would when using a more modern phone like, say, an iPhone. Even celebrities are starting to join this trend.

An example is Camila Cabello, a musician, who tweeted a picture posing with a TCL flip phone. However, since flip phones don't really have good cameras, it can be assumed that the picture was taken with a different device.

Cabello: "I'm team flip phone revolution. Maybe I can write the theme song guys"

Actress Dove Cameron, famous for Disney Channel's Liv and Maddie show, said in an interview that she decided to use flip phones due to her time on social media. She found it to be a solution to help her "unplug" from social media.

Cameron: “I found a little 90s, Matrix-y flip phone... I got a separate number for it, it’s really cheap and I think probably really sh*tty.”

Sam Bankman-Fried, the CEO of the now-bankrupt crypto firm FTX who is currently facing charges pertaining to its collapse, was also restricted to a flip phone with no internet.

Recently, observers have said that social media posts helped fuel the banking system concerns amid the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank. An example of this was a tweet by Kim Dotcom, an entrepreneur and internet personality who tweeted, "Run on the bank!" which gained over 3,000 reposts during the time of the report.
