$GM has said it was going to drop Apple, $AAPL, CarPlay and Android, $GOOGL, Auto in all vehicles
Cadillac's new ultra-luxury Escalade IQ will not feature Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Despite the introduction of a massive 55-inch infotainment screen spanning from pillar to pillar in the newly unveiled electric vehicle (EV), the capability to connect these widely used phone projection functions has been entirely omitted.
Earlier this year, General Motors (GM) communicated its intention to limit the availability of CarPlay and Android Auto in upcoming electric vehicles. In April, Scott Miller, GM's VP of software, elaborated on this decision, citing the desire to prioritize electric vehicle-specific features such as battery preconditioning when routing to a charging station.
GM encountered significant criticism earlier this year for discontinuing support for CarPlay and Android Auto in its forthcoming vehicles. The Escalade IQ now joins the list of confirmed GM vehicles that will not incorporate these features, following the path set by the Chevy Blazer EV, which is currently in the process of being shipped.
