Kamala Harris has said she is ready to serve as Biden faces age scrutiny

Kamala Harris has said she is ready to serve as Biden faces age scrutiny, per WSJ.

In a Wall Street Journal interview published on Monday, US Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her readiness to assume leadership responsibilities amidst mounting voter concerns about President Joe Biden's age in an election year.

Responding to inquiries regarding whether she needs to persuade voters of her qualifications due to concerns about Biden's age, the 59-year-old Harris asserted, "I am ready to serve. There's no question about that."

As the first Black, South Asian, and female vice president in US history, Harris has encountered increasing scrutiny regarding her own capabilities, particularly as the next in line for the presidency should Democrat Biden, aged 81, become incapacitated or choose to step down.

Harris emphasized that anyone observing her in action "walks away fully aware of my capacity to lead."

This interview took place two days before a critical special counsel report characterized Biden as elderly and forgetful.

Special counsel Robert Hur's investigation into Biden's handling of classified documents concluded that the president should not face charges but critically portrayed him as a "well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory," according to the report.

In response, the White House vigorously rebuffed the report, highlighting that Hur conducted the interview with Biden under significant pressure the day following the October 7 attacks on Israel.

Harris also defended Biden, dismissing the special counsel's report as "politically motivated."

As Biden gears up for reelection, Harris has assumed an increasingly prominent role in his campaign, focusing on various issues such as abortion, in preparation for the November election, where he is anticipated to face off against former president Donald Trump once again.

Harris has frequently been a target of Republicans, and polls indicate that the former California senator suffers from similarly low approval ratings as Biden himself.
