LEGO was the latest company to be targeted by a boycott due to the company allegedly releasing "transgender building sets." However, a LEGO spokesperson denied these claims, saying they never released LGBTQIA+ sets aimed at children.
The boycotts started coming after Oli London, a person who identified as trans-Korean, shared that LEGO had an LGBTQI+ exhibit in Denmark.
"LEGO launches new LGBTQI+ exhibit at Denmark HQ featuring bricks for trans families."
London also linked to an article written by them which showed images of LGBTQIA+-themed builds. In an earlier tweet, London said: "LEGO wants your children to become TRANS!"
The set in question was the A-Z of Awesome, was revealed on Twitter in a June 2022 video celebrating Pride Month. However, a LEGO spokesperson clarified that the set was just a marketing campaign and that it wasn't for sale.
“The information on Twitter is false. We have not released any LGBTQIA+ sets aimed at children. ‘A-Z of Awesome’ was a marketing campaign released last year that featured sets built by our amazing adult fans. None of these sets are for sale,”
Due to the statements made by London, there were those calling for LEGO to be added to the list of companies being boycotted for going "woke." This comes after Bud Light experienced massive backlash due to its marketing choice and how its previous VP of marketing described its audience as "fratty" and had "out of touch" humor.
Recently, Target also became part of the boycotted companies as there were calls against its LGBTQ+ kid's clothing. This resulted in the company losing $9 billion in the span of just a week.
This resulted in Target deciding to remove certain items from the store and change things regarding its LGBTQ+ merchandise.
