LinkedIn, a social platform described as "for professionals" where many users look for job positions, has given its two cents regarding the future. In a report by Bloomberg, it was shared that in the future, LinkedIn thinks that employers will be looking more into skill-based hires.
The job-networking site shares that it envisions how in the future, employers will look past the regular requirements of today. This includes college degrees and prior job titles.
Instead, LinkedIn believes that future employers would look more at the applicant's proven skills. Harvard Business School management professor Joseph Fuller gave a statement regarding skill-based hiring.
Fuller: “Skills-based hiring is the great white whale, the holy grail of the labor market,”
LinkedIn has long been active in the job market, observing the trends that happen within its paltform. So far, there have been new emerging changes that weren't once culturally accepted back in the day.
This includes employees creating a recruiter-friendly profile where they can network with other recruiters. On the recruiter side, this also allows them to look at already hired employees.
For example, Amazon HR staffers at the start of the year were also looking for new jobs for themselves by placing #OpenbToWork on their LinkedIn profiles. These came during the time that Amazon was letting go of thousands of workers.
During that time, even Amazon recruiters were already looking for new positions for themselves.
LinkedIn chief operating officer, Dan Shapera gave a statement regarding the changes.
Shapero: “Twenty years ago, either you were actively looking for work or you were not looking for work,”
In February, LinkedIn data revealed that 4/5 Gen Z workers want to move jobs this year due to them finding their positions "unfulfilling." This came along with the employees reportedly finding a lack of greater purpose.
