Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of $META, has said it could be possible to use the Metaverse to bring back the dead virtually, per BI.
In a recent conversation with podcaster Lex Fridman, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, delved into the future potentials of Virtual Reality (VR) and the Metaverse.
The interview marked the introduction of Meta's new Codec avatars, utilizing scanning technology to construct 3D models of users' faces.
Conducted within the Metaverse, Fridman expressed a desire to communicate with departed loved ones, prompting him to inquire about the future possibilities of such interactions.
Zuckerberg acknowledged the complexity of the idea but hinted at a potential balance in creating virtual representations of deceased individuals through the amalgamation of VR and AI technology. He noted that, particularly for those grieving a loss, interacting with or revisiting certain memories in a virtual space could be beneficial.
However, he also acknowledged the potential for such ventures to become psychologically taxing, stating that a comprehensive study and understanding of the implications would be necessary. He emphasized that he isn't an expert in this field and that further investigation is warranted.
Notably, Fridman commended the realism of Meta's new avatars, showcasing a significant improvement over the earlier versions that were subject to online mockery. A cartoonish depiction of Zuckerberg's early metaverse avatar, situated near a virtual Eiffel Tower, became a widely circulated meme on social media, underscoring the considerable advancements achieved with the new avatar technology.
