Meta's Threads sees massive drop in engagement, with user time spent dropping by 50% from Saturday

Per CNBC

Meta recently launched Threads, which within just a few days, was able to gain 100 million users. However, that number significantly dropped as it saw a massive drop in engagement, with user time spent on the app dropping by 50% from Saturday.

It was also reported that the app experienced a 20% drop in daily active users from Saturday. Anthony Bartolacci, Sensor Tower managing director, gave a statement to CNBC regarding the incident.

Bartolacci: “The Threads launch really did ‘break the internet,’ or at least the Sensor Tower models... In the 10-plus years Sensor Tower has been estimating app installs, the first 72 hours of Threads was truly in a class by itself.”

The time spent by users on the app saw a 50% decline, dropping to just 10 minutes from its original 20 minutes. However, he maintains that this will still be an uphill climb for the app.

Bartolacci: “The backing of Meta and the integration with Instagram likely gives Threads a much higher flood than other services, but it will need a more compelling value proposition than simply ‘Twitter, but without Elon Musk.’”

Recently, Instagram's Adam Mosseri said that there's no room for politics and news on Threads. Twitter's Elon Musk has also called Mark Zuckerberg a "cuck."
