Most Apple, $AAPL, iPhone owners see little to no value in Apple Intelligence so far

A recent survey indicates that while iPhone buyers care about AI capabilities, most believe the current features provide minimal value. Whether the introduction of Genmoji and ChatGPT integration will shift this perception remains uncertain.

iPhone Owners Value AI More Than Samsung Users

A survey conducted by tech trade-in platform SellCell revealed that AI plays a significant role in smartphone purchasing decisions, particularly among iPhone users.

Nearly half (47.6%) of iPhone users said AI features were “very” or “somewhat” important in deciding on a new phone. By comparison, only 23.7% of Samsung users felt the same.

Existing AI Features Fail to Impress

Despite this interest, many iPhone users are underwhelmed by Apple Intelligence’s current capabilities.

According to the survey, 73% of Apple Intelligence users and 87% of Samsung Galaxy AI users found the AI features to be “not very valuable” or said they “add little to no value” to their smartphone experience.

The survey also ranked the popularity of Apple Intelligence features available before iOS 18.2’s release:

  • Writing Tools (72%)
  • Notification Summaries (54%)
  • Priority Messages (44.5%)
  • Clean Up in Photos (29.1%)
  • Smart Reply in Mail and Messages (20.9%)

Genmoji and ChatGPT May Change the Landscape

The survey results came out before the launch of iOS 18.2, which introduced Genmoji and ChatGPT integration, potentially altering user opinions.

Genmoji combines the concepts of “emoji” and “AI-generated” images. With this feature, users can create custom emojis in seconds by simply describing what they want. Accessing the feature is as easy as opening the emoji keyboard, tapping the glowing smiley icon, and providing a description.

Meanwhile, ChatGPT integration enhances Siri’s capabilities. In iOS 18.2, users can initiate ChatGPT queries by saying, “Ask ChatGPT,” and Siri will redirect the request to the AI-powered assistant. Apple positions this as a complementary feature to Siri’s knowledge base, enabling users to access richer responses through ChatGPT when needed.

Whether these updates will satisfy users remains to be seen, but they represent Apple’s effort to deliver more compelling AI experiences.
