Poland and Hungary have decided to ban importing certain food products from Ukraine. These include food items like grain.
The decision was made to help protect the countries' local agricultural sectors. This came after the two governments said they felt the regional price impacts due to overflooded supply.
Ukraine gave their thoughts on the matter, sharing how the decision wouldn't help in coming towards a "positive resolution." They also described the actions as "unilateral drastic."
The country also noted that they understood that Polish farmers were struggling but said that Ukrainian farmers were experiencing the worst.
"We understand that Polish farmers are in a difficult situation, but we emphasize that Ukrainian farmers are in the most difficult situation right now,"
Poland's Law and Justice Party (PiS) leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski gave a statement regarding their decision and how, aside from grain, they also decided to prohibit entry for many other food types.
Kaczynski: "We are and remain unchanged friends and allies of Ukraine. We will support her and we support her. ... But it is the duty of every state, every authority, good authority in any case, to protect the interests of its citizens."
In November, Poland said that it would increase the combat readiness of some troops and is already considering activating Article 4 of the NATO military alliance treaty. This came after the deaths of two people from an explosion that took place near the Ukrainian border.
Recently, 14 US special forces were on the ground in Ukraine. UK also deployed 50 of its elite fighters, accounting for over half of all Western special forces that were allegedly active in Ukraine.
This goes against the Kremlin's previous warnings of the West getting involved with the conflict in Ukraine. Russia's Putin previously said that Biden was "fighting an indirect war with Russia" after Zelensky was invited to the US.
