The US Air Force has carried out two new airstrikes against Iranian proxy targets in Eastern Syria

The US Air Force has carried out two new airstrikes against Iranian proxy targets in Eastern Syria moments ago.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Monday that suspected US air planes targeted Iranian-backed armed groups in Syria.

SOHR said that they targeted a military headquarters near the city of Al-Mayadeen on the western bank of the Euphrates River, which is under control of Iran-backed groups and the Syrian government.

They also targeted, with 4 air strikes, sites in Albu Kamal near the Syrian-Iraqi border.

Jennifer Griffin, a national security correspondent at the Pentagon for Fox News, on Twitter said that an US defense official confirmed that the US Air Force "carried out two new airstrikes against Iranian proxy targets in Eastern Syria moments ago."

So far, the US CENTCOM nor the US-led coalition did not confirm the new strikes.

If confirmed, it would be the third US response to Iran-backed groups in Syria.
