Three of the largest food delivery apps are working together to fight against a law that could impose them having to pay a minimum wage to food delivery workers. The law comes from NYC and is now being challenged by Uber, DoorDash, and Grubhub.
The three companies are arguing that the new law would do more harm than good. Uber filed a separate lawsuit while DoorDash and Grubhub filed a joint lawsuit.
DoorDash released a statement to CNN, saying the law was a "bad policy."
DoorDash: “We will not stand by and let the harmful impacts of this earnings standard on New York City customers, merchants, and the delivery workers it was intended to support go unchecked. We – and others – clearly and repeatedly warned the city that using such a flawed process to underpin its rulemaking would have lasting and harmful impacts for all New Yorkers who use these platforms,”
The law would've increased payment for app delivery drivers to $17.96 hourly on July 12 and $20 hourly on April 2025. In November, there was also a proposal for them to be paid $23.82 hourly plus tips by 2025.
In May, it was announced that Uber said its UK customers would be getting the option to purchase flights inside the app by summer.
