An employee has been arrested for stabbing company president of Anderson Express Inc in West Michigan

Police are investigating the stabbing of Erik Denslow, president of Anderson Express Inc., during a staff meeting on Tuesday in the company’s Muskegon, Michigan, office, according to a statement from the Fruitport Township Police Department.

While authorities initially withheld the victim's name, local news outlets News 8 and Fox 17 identified Denslow. He remains hospitalized in critical condition but is expected to survive, according to police.

The suspect, 32-year-old Nathan Mahoney, an employee at Anderson Express Inc., has been arrested and charged. Local media, citing police and court documents, confirmed Mahoney's identity.

Deputy Police Chief Greg Poulson told News 8 that investigators have yet to establish a motive for the attack but are exploring whether it could be a "copycat" crime inspired by the execution-style shooting of UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson, 50, in Manhattan earlier this month.

“This possibility comes to everyone’s mind given recent events," Poulson said. "We’re reviewing all of Mahoney’s social accounts and electronic devices to uncover any motive for his actions."

Mahoney was arraigned Wednesday on charges of assault with intent to murder and fleeing a police officer, as reported by People magazine.
