Donald Trump and aide have been arrested formally at Miami courthouse

On June 13, Donald Trump arrived at a federal courthouse in Miami, where he was arrested and officially charged with mishandling classified documents. The New York Times reported that he appeared before magistrate judge Jonathan Goodman for arraignment.

Due to the abundance of existing photographs of Trump that could serve for identification purposes, he was not required to have a mug shot taken. However, he did have to provide digital fingerprints and disclose his social security number and date of birth during the booking procedure.

The indictment filed on June 8 accuses the former president of attempting to conceal and falsely representing classified documents. Trump pleaded "not guilty" to the 37 charges brought against him by special counsel Jack Smith.

Accompanying Trump at the federal court was Walt Nauta, his personal aide, who faced allegations of lying to investigators and concealing boxes containing confidential paperwork. Nauta did not enter a plea but was granted an extension until June 27 to secure local legal representation.

Alina Habba, Trump's lawyer, addressed reporters at the courthouse, providing an explanation for the different treatment the former president received compared to other defendants. She stated, "President Trump holds a unique position where a mug shot is unnecessary. It's evident that he poses no risk of fleeing. As the current frontrunner for the GOP, he is undergoing a process that has been coordinated with the Secret Service, ensuring a seamless handling of the situation."
