The Food and Drug Administration has changed the categorization of sugary cereal and white bread, previously called "healthy." Now, the administration says that these foods lost the claims to salmon and avocados.

For many years, sugary cereal and white bread have been considered healthy, especially by American households. Now, the FDA is changing the proposed guideline for these foods.

Per STAT News, many major companies have been trying to fight against the changes, wanting the foods to remain under the "healthy" category. The complaint notes that there would be fewer of their products under the category.

Per the proposed changes to the American Dietary Guidelines, foods considered "healthy" would have to have lower amounts of saturated fat, added sugars, and sodium.

Aside from white bread, the new FDA standards would mean that yogurt can also no longer be marketed as healthy. The new guidelines would see the addition of other foods to be considered "healthy."

New foods to be added to the list of "healthy" produce include avocados, nuts, seeds, high-fat fish like salmon, and now, even "water." These products were previously not considered as healthy.

Per Gizmodo, the changes in the "healthy" categorization would see certain foods like Kellogg's Raisin Bran being dropped from the list. The FDA also shared how 3/4ths of Americans didn't eat vegetables and dairy.

60-90% of Americans were also found to eat too much sugar, sodium, and saturated fats, which would make them unhealthy. The new proposed changes are expected to fix the problem of the overconsumption of these foods.

In November 2022, the FDA just approved lab-grown meat for human consumption. FDA commissioner Dr. Robert M. Califf shared how the products were expected to become ready for the US market in the near future.
