Elon Musk Announces Monetization on Twitter Beta Version Could Come as Early as Next Week

Per Business Insider

After Elon Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion and gave previous comments about its struggle to raise profits, he has given many proposed features and ideas that could come to the platform. One of them would be allowing users to monetize their content on Twitter by paying them for posting.

The new feature is expected to come as early as next week after Musk replied to criticism regarding the co-authoring feature for users. The feature allowed users to author a tweet together, which the user thought was unnecessary.

Musk quickly replied that he decided to remove the feature and instead focus on something else. He then noted that a beta version of a feature allowing users to monetize their posts would launch next week.

Musk: "Combined with improvements to creator subscriptions (fka superfollow), you will be able to publish directly on Twitter & get paid for it. Beta version launching next week."

Musk also followed this up by saying that they are reviewing ad rev sharing for placing ads within the tweet replies to make the thread much more interesting. This would allow users to scroll down the thread and potentially see an ad, which is still subject to change since it is currently still being reviewed.

Early this year, Musk shared his plans to increase the word limit to 4,000 words while adding text-editing features like underlining, italic, bold, and the ability to change font sizes. The Twitter CEO also clarified that this would not clog up tweets, but users can open the "click for more" option to see the full tweet.

In November, the Twitter CEO said they could beat YouTube's monetization, which pays users 55% of ad revenue. Musk also shared how the social platform was working on a feature called "Coins," which would potentially provide a way for users to monetize their content.
