Elon Musk is officially taking legal action against the Twitter account owner that used to track his private jet after an incident that reportedly put his son X at risk. Although the Twitter CEO previously expressed his support for free speech, saying that he didn't agree with the account since it was a "direct personal safety risk.
The @ElonJet account was created by 20-year-old Jack Sweeney to track the billionaire's private jet to let people know of his whereabouts. Although the Twitter CEO initially allowed the account to remain on the platform, the owner recently reported anomalies, saying he was shadowbanned before ultimately being blocked.
Now, the social platform has banned @ElonJet and Sweeney's account, with Musk sharing with the public why he decided to do this. The billionaire is also planning to take legal action against the owner of the jet-tracking account and others.
Musk: "Last night, car carrying lil X in LA was followed by crazy stalker (thinking it was me), who later blocked car from moving & climbed onto hood."
The Twitter CEO then announced that legal action would be taken against the account's owner, Sweeney, and the organizations he says "supported harm" towards his family. Musk even shared a video on Twitter of a man in a car with a license plate CJ82G38 and only asked if anyone recognized the person in the video.
When asked whether the person in the video was the one that jumped on the hood of the car, Musk gave confirmation.
Shortly before the incident, the Twitter CEO replied to a tweet by Ethereum's Vitalik Buterin, talking in an unrelated statement with the letter "X," to which Musk shared a photo of a small ID with a picture of his son and an "X" on it.
The original image was uploaded on Dec 9, shortly after another photo of X in San Francisco.
Twitter updated its media policy stating the following:
"You may not publish or post other people's private information without their express authorization and permission."
