Finland is now the 31st member of NATO

Per CNN

Finland officially joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in a ceremony held at the Brussels NATO headquarters. Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State, was in attendance.

Other people in attendance include Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary General, as the accession of Finland was established by Pekka Haavisto, Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Finnish presidency gave an official statement regarding their joining NATO.

“Finland has today become a member of the defense alliance NATO. The era of military non-alignment in our history has come to an end. A new era begins,”

Finland will be the 31st member of NATO and give an additional 830 miles of frontier with Russia. This was reportedly a huge shift in the security landscape in northeastern Europe.

The Finnish presidency also noted that the country would contribute to the collective deterrence and defense of NATO.

“As a partner, we have long actively participated in NATO activities. In the future, Finland will make a contribution to NATO’s collective deterrence and defense,”

Russia previously noted that NATO's expansion wouldn't result in more stability in Europe. Alexander Grushko, the Deputy Foreign Minister, gave a statement to the Russian state news RIA Novosti regarding what they would do.

Grushko: “We will strengthen our military capabilities in the west and northwest if NATO members deploy forces and equipment on Finnish territory,”

The White House has recently told US citizens residing or traveling to Russia to depart immediately. A statement was released saying that the target of American citizens was "unacceptable" and that they condemned the detention of American citizen Evan Gershkovich.

Recently, Russia also noted that it would no longer give the united states advanced notice if it decides to test out its missiles. Both Russia and China said that there are no winners in nuclear war and that it should never be unleashed.
