Justin Bieber, Jimmy Fallon, and Other Celebrities are Sued for Alleged Misleading of Followers Into Buying Bored Ape Yacht Club

Shortly after the FTX crash, a class action lawsuit was filed against multiple celebrities for allegedly misleading their followers into buying the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT and for pumping its value. The lawsuit demands a jury trial for the multiple actors named in the suit.

Jimmy Fallon and Justin Bieber were just among the few publicly promoting BAYC, an NFT project, on mainstream platforms and their personal social media. The SEC gave a previous statement about celebrities promoting crypto.

SEC: “These endorsements may be unlawful if they do not disclose the nature, source, and amount of any compensation paid, directly or indirectly, by the company in exchange for the endorsement.”

The lawsuit names the following:

  • Christopher Lyons - Board Member of Yuga Labs
  • Alexis Ohanian - Co-founder and Executive Chairman of Reddit
  • Amy Wu - FTX Ventures investor
  • Maaria Bajwa - Sound Ventures Principal
  • Dean Steinbeck - Co-founder and Managing Director of Horizon Labs Ventures
  • Guy Oseary - Talent manager of artists including Madonna, U2, and RHCP
  • Mike Winkelmann - NFT digital artist BEEPLE
  • Madonna Louise Ciccone - Artist Madonna
