Megan Markle podcast was scrapped from Spotify, and now Bill Simmons calls them 'grifters'

Per Market Watch

Previously, Spotify entered a $20 million deal with Megan Markle for her podcast to be placed on the platform. Now, the streaming platform decided not to renew their partnership with Bill Simmons, calling them "grifters."

Bill Simmons, the Podcast and Spotify Technology SA executive, called the royal couple "grifters" after what was described as an "unproductive production deal." He also noted how he wished that he was part of the negotiations.

Simmons: “I wish I had been involved in the ‘Meghan and Harry leave Spotify’ negotiation... The F—ing Grifters.’ That’s the podcast we shoulda launched with them. I gotta get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea. It’s one of my best stories. F–k them. The grifters.”

The executive also questioned what Prince Harry did and asked what their talent was and why they should be listened to. He also highlighted how all they did was complain about the royal family.

Simmons: "You live in f**king Montecito and you just like, you sell documentaries and podcasts and nobody cares what you have to say about anything unless you talk about the royal family and you just complain about them.”

In April, Spotify reached 500 million active monthly users. In comparison, ChatGPT reached 100 million monthly active users in January, just two months after the launch.
