While some consider raising a child already expensive, certain places in the US are actually more expensive for child raising. For example, in San Francisco, it costs $35,647 annually to raise a child, almost double the national average.
SmartAsset analyzed 381 cities and found San Fransico to be the most expensive for raising a child. This came as the average cost of child-raising in the US was reportedly $20,813 yearly.
It was also reported that there were cheaper cities to raise children, like Morristown, Tennessee, the lowest on the list, where raising a child would only cost $14,577 annually. It was also noted that the cheapest places to raise a child include Charleston, Greenville, Columbia, and Hilton Head.
The report highlights that one major reason why it was so expensive to raise a child was because of housing. Depending on where a family lives, housing costs alone would range from $1,200 to around $13,000 annually.
In April, it was reported that the average cost to raise a child to 17 is now $310,605. In May, almost half of pet owners said that their monthly expenses for pets and children were the same.
