The DOJ Justice Department has sent a letter to Elon Musk's America Super PAC warning that the daily $1 million giveaway to registered voters in swing states might violate federal laws

The Justice Department recently warned Elon Musk's America PAC that its $1 million sweepstakes targeting registered voters in swing states may violate federal law, according to individuals familiar with the situation who spoke with CNN.

Musk, a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump, has been spending millions of dollars to back Trump's candidacy. His political action committee (PAC) has promoted the $1 million prize as part of an effort to boost voter registration in highly contested states.

Concerns about the legality of the sweepstakes were raised immediately by election law experts and some state officials, who questioned whether the initiative violates federal law. Under U.S. law, it is illegal to pay individuals to register to vote. Musk’s PAC is offering $1 million prizes to random participants who sign a petition supporting First and Second Amendment freedoms. However, to sign the petition, individuals must be registered to vote in certain states.

A letter from the Justice Department’s public integrity section, which investigates potential violations of election law, was sent to Musk's PAC, according to sources familiar with the matter.
