Elon Musk's Twitter has made another unexpected move with popular third-party apps like Tweetbot reporting issues connecting to the social platform. While some say this could be a bug, others say that they don't know the root cause.
Developers of different third-party Twitter apps report problems connecting to the social platform. The issues started with users reporting authentication errors regarding the apps.
Paul Haddad, co-creator of the Tweetbot, gave a statement regarding the suddenly removed support. The co-creator noted that there has still been no word from Twitter and what he hopes to happen.
Haddad: "Almost 24 hours later and still no official/unofficial info from inside Twitter... Hopefully everyone knows what we're capable of and can live with some, hopefully not long lived, rough edges/missing features."
The Tweetbot is an app designed to automate functions like following, liking, or retweeting on Twitter, per Tech Target. It does so by allowing users to input trigger hashtags which then automate responses by the bot.
Another app, Twitterific, said that users could not access the service, per a blog post on Icon Factory. The post highlighted how they also did not have any information from Twitter regarding why their services suddenly stopped working.
"We wouldn’t know whom to reach out to at Twitter even if such people existed. We’re in the dark just as much as you are, sadly."
The news comes at a time when Twitter is reportedly working on a "Coins" feature that will help users monetize their content. The purchase of these Coins will reportedly be made through Stripe.
Twitter is also looking at other potential ways to rake in more revenue, including possibly selling user names as you would domains. So far, no information has been released regarding how the feature will roll out.
