Mark Zuckerberg Says He Doesn't Like 'Managers Managing Managers': Against Managers Creating Larger Teams

Per Business Insider

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared his thoughts on managers managing other managers and commented on the structure of large teams. This came with the company's announcement of building AI tools similar to ChatGPT.

Chris Cox, the company's chief product officer, made a post regarding the need for the company's organizational structure to be "flattened." Command Line writer Alex Heath said that the statement by Zuckerberg could mean more layoffs.

Zuckerberg: "I don't think you want a management structure that's just managers managing managers, managing managers, managing managers, managing the people who are doing the work,"

Meta previously announced that it would carry out its largest layoffs, with 11,000 employees expected to lose their jobs. Per a Forbes article in November, it was reported that the company lost nearly 75% of its stock price and was the worst performer on the S&P 500.

Regarding its AI tool, Zuckerberg says that it would be trained on Meta's codebase to assist engineers. The tools could later be used to assist engineers, which could help amplify their efforts.

The decision of Meta to also work on its own AI tools come after the popularity of OpenAI's ChatGPT has shown its capabilities. The AI tool was recently able to pass the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) shortly after it also passed the Wharton MBA exam.

ChatGPT has also been known to help out when it comes to basic coding, and OpenAI is planning to take its abilities further. According to ZD Net, the company announced that it would be hiring additional developers to help improve ChatGPT's coding abilities.

While Meta is still working on its own AI tools, Amazon employees are already using ChatGPT to assist with software coding. This came from an employee who said that the Amazon Web Services cloud unit is already testing out the business.
